Company Overview

Wilyete Cocoa Processing (WCP) is a local SME business in the cocoa processing industry, established in 2022 and incorporated as a limited liability company on December 26, 2023. The company is headquartered in Vanimo, Sandaun Province, Papua New Guinea and specializes in purchasing and processing of raw cocoa beans into various semi-finished products for the export markets, with the prospect developments in chocolate downstream processing. WCP has its own 3 ha cocoa farm in supplementing its own cocoa beans for processing.


Vision and Mission Statements

Wilyete Cocoa Processing vision is “To Be First Locally Owned Company and a Class Cocoa Processing Factory Of International Standards,” reflecting its aspiration for excellence in food manufacturing on a global scale. Its mission emphasizes the wealth and health benefits of cocoa, stating: “TO PROCESS PREMIUM COCOA BEANS AND BRINGING IN FOREIGN CURRENCY INTO THE PROVINCE AND COUNTRY FOR THE BENEFIT OF RURAL COCOA FARMERS AND IMPROVING CASH ECONOMY IN OUR RURAL VILLAGES AND COUNTRY.”


Facilities and Production Capacity

The company operates one processing facility located in Vanimo Town, dedicated to cocoa processing and production. WCP has an annual throughput of 150 – 200 metric tonnes of premium organic West Sepik Cocoa Beans. The processing facilities is unique that it exclusively uses premium locally grown cocoa beans from its farm and small holder cocoa blending them with other varieties.

Product Range

Wilyete Cocoa Processing produces a variety of products categorized mainly into semi-finished goods and finished confectionery items. The semi-finished products include:

•    Dry Cocoa Beans (50% of net sales)

•    Cocoa Liquor (10% of net sales)

•    Cocoa Butter (20% of net sales)

•    Cocoa Powder (20% of net sales)

In addition to these, WCP proposes to manufacture several popular products under our own branding including:

•    Chocolate Bars

•    Chocolate Coated Peanuts (Pebbles)

Market Focus and Export Activities

A significant portion of WCP’s business is focused on export activities, which account for about 90% of its net sales. This international market engagement highlights the company’s commitment to exporting high-quality premium cocoa beans for processing and export internationally. Target markets are South East Asia and Europe.

Financial Performance Overview

While specific financial figures require access to detailed reports, it is noted that WCP has experienced fluctuations in its financial performance recently, with a reported decline in net sales revenue by approximately 70%. This is due to challenging operational requirements and low cocoa production in the province. However, operating profit showed an increase of about 65%, indicating potential areas of operational efficiency despite challenges in overall revenue growth.

In summary, Wilyete Cocoa Processes achieves a milestone as the first local company to export cocoa products from Vanimo and stands out as a leading local company and manufacturer within the cocoa industry in the province of West Sepik with the support from PNG Cocoa Board, FAO Streit PNG and our village based cocoa farmers, with the overall aim of producing premium quality cocoa beans and high-quality finished products for the international markets.

Registration and Licencing Certifications:

WCP is certified by the Cocoa Board of PNG with the following registration certificates for Dry Bean Dealer, Microlet Exporter and an Export License in meeting regulatory requirements and standards of Cocoa Exports. WCP is currently doing registration with – GACC for direct export into the Chinese market, which has significant market potential for our products entering China. Licensing certificate will be issued by December 2025.
